ONCE YOU ARRIVE
Its time for the fun to begin! So much to see... so much to do!
A few suggestions now will go a long way toward making your stay more comfortable once you arrive.
Welcome Centers
Gatlinburg operates three Welcome Centers to help you in getting oriented to our mountain town. Each has friendly people, clean restrooms, and go the extra mile in getting you oriented and comfortable while getting around Gatlinburg.
The primary center is situated on lushly forested highway 441/321 that follows the river between Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. Good signage, a marked exit and plenty of free parking make it easy to stop in, where you will find two information desks: one for the city and another for the national park. Each desk is staffed with professional information specialists armed with literature and suggestions on everything from restaurants and attractions to hiking or driving trails.
Features include
- PARK & RIDE – park your car for free and hop aboard the Gatlinburg Trolley to ride into town.
- NATIONAL PARK BOOKSTORE – The non-profit Great Smoky Mountains Association staffs the Park’s information desk as well as the complete bookstore and gift shop of park-related items.
- MADE IN GATLINBURG STORE – This popular one-stop shop features the handicraft of over sixty Gatlinburg artisans, ideal for peaking interest in products befitting the store’s name.
- FISHING LICENSE & ALL DAY TROLLEY PASS SALES – You can purchase your fishing license for Gatlinburg and/or the National Park while you’re here, along with information on regulations of each locale. Additionally, pick up a pass (see Trolley section) that will get you around town unlimited times for only two dollars a day.
Two additional Welcome Centers are located in downtown Gatlinburg, each near the City-operated parking garages at Traffic Lights #3 and #5.
- PARKWAY WELCOME CENTER at #3 contains another complete National Park bookstore in addition to City brochures and All Day Trolley Pass sales.
- AQUARIUM WELCOME CENTER at #5 on Ripley’s Aquarium Plaza is another convenient, staffed rest and information stop that sits just above Gatlinburg’s Mass Transit Center, where every trolley departs from. It houses a display entitled “They Built This City on Arts & Crafts” that tells the story of early life in the Smokies.
Finally, the historic OGLE CABIN can be found on the northeast corner of the Parkway at Traffic Light #6. This 201 year old one-room cabin is the home of Gatlinburg’s first settler, and is open at no charge to the public from Memorial Day through October.
Special Note
Some timeshare companies have established sales/solicitation-oriented “Visitor Information” booths along the Parkway whereby personnel may call out to passersby with varying offers of money, show tickets, etc. We apologize for any intrusion this may be upon your otherwise leisurely stroll through Gatlinburg. Be assured that you’ll be made to feel only welcomed and comfortable at any of Gatlinburg’s three Welcome Centers.
Visitor Information Channel
Take a leisurely visual tour of Gatlinburg’s shops, restaurants and attractions from the comfort of your room! WGAT-TV Channel 69 is available 24/7on your cable TV and provides plenty of suggestions and event programming to help you in deciding what to do next in Gatlinburg!
Take the Trolley
Gatlinburg is known as a “walking community,” and rightfully so. The Downtown Parkway district is home to over 500 attractions, restaurants and unique shops. Great Smoky Arts & Crafts Community is another great shopping district that is covered by the Gatlinburg Trolley. Two free Park & Ride parking lots make getting around town a breeze. Park for free – Ride the Trolley! The new All Day Trolley Pass allows riders to board all but the tan and pink trolley routes unlimited times for only two dollars a day and is on sale at the three City Welcome Centers and numerous lodging properties.
